The history of Ortho-Klinik Dortmund dates back all the way to the 19th century. Since 2015, it has been established as a specialist clinic for orthopaedics and casualty surgery for Dortmund and the whole region. As a subsidiary of Ev. Stiftung Volmarstein, an infrastructure with state-of-the-art medicine can be found here today. The clinic in Dortmund-Hörde has a capacity of 60 beds as well as 4 operating rooms and is specialising in conventional as well as robot-assisted spinal surgery, shoulder surgery and arthroscopy, primary knee and hip joint endoprosthetics, revision and geriatric orthopaedics, foot and ankle joint surgery, casualty surgery, pain therapy, hand surgery.
With the opening of the new OR3, a state-of-the-art operating room was completed within the shortest amount of time. Here, too, the Mizuho Group was able to prove once again its expertise in the realisation of holistic operating rooms.
Right from the start, the objective of this project was very ambitious. Within the shortest amount of time, an existing sterile goods storage area was to become a state-of-the-art operating room that meets the most demanding requirements and expectations of the users. To realise this goal, a modular wall system was installed in combination with an IS 500 OP media bridge, a Paramon® OR integration system, an Aurinio® Wave FT OR light and various accessories.
The team of experts of the Mizuho Group was involved in the planning since July 2017. It became quickly apparent that TRILUX Medical – as part of the Mizuho Group – is the right partner for the realisation of an OR from a single source.
The construction phase started in October 2017; the specified completion date was December 2017.
The wishes and ideas – both of the clinic’s technical project manager as well as the OR manager – were checked for feasibility and jointly fleshed out. The work was always solution-oriented and practice-oriented to ultimately develop a result that is to the utmost satisfaction of all parties involved.
Throughout, the medical engineering experts of the Mizuho Group were available to both the architect’s office and the hospital as a strong partner. The medical technology planning was mainly carried out by TRILUX Medical. The architect’s office served primarily as supporter and coordinator and performed the final acceptances towards the end of the project. In the implementation of the products, special emphasis was placed on providing the OR team with a pleasant, intuitive, and uncomplicated day-to-day work.
“The IS 500 ceiling supply unit is not just visually quite pleasant to me, it also enables us, above all, to work barrier-free with the highest amount of flexibility possible. The Paramon® OR integration system is making our work a lot easier as well. Its configuration is intuitive and it is easy to operate. I would install this system again any day,” says OR manager Noureddine Bouchkhachakh.
Additionally, the indirect lighting of the IS 500, allowing for individual adjustment of the colour temperature for the surgeon, has a very calming effect. The OR team is also highly satisfied with the Aurinio® Wave OR lights installed. Due to the significant shadow reduction, hardly any readjustments are necessary during surgery.
The clinic’s OR team was able to perform the first surgery already only December 28th, 2017 – barely two months after the construction phase started.
During the entire construction phase, the OR operation of the Ortho-Klinik could be fully maintained. A special challenge resulted from the delivery situation that existed on-site. All materials and products had to be transported through the windows of the first upper floor. This hurdle was mastered excellently as well.
“We are very happy to have selected TRILUX Medical as our partner for this project. During the whole duration of the project, we felt like we were in good hands. An all around professional support, practice-oriented planning and reliable service. The whole OR team is happy about the friction-less processes in a pleasant work environment,” adds OR manager Noureddine Bouchkhachakh.
Furthermore, TRILUX Medical was able to gain Ortho-Klink Dortmund as a development partner. Through this partnership, valuable information will be gathered throughout the term of the on-site monitoring. Physicians and users are assessing many products of the portfolio for a wide bandwidth of clinical examinations. This partnership enables TRILUX Medical to optimise the products for the real day-to-day requirements of the users and to further improve the portfolio.
